La Internacionalización en Casa suele centrarse en la dimensión curricular y los contenidos de clase. Sin embargo, las experiencias más valiosas para la formación de ciudadanos globales ocurren a menudo durante las actividades extracurriculares. La creación de programas de distinción internacional permite la integración del aprendizaje que ocurre en contextos académicos con las experiencias personales y colectivas que los estudiantes viven fuera del aula. En este curso se proporcionarán ejemplos de programas de distinción internacional y se discutirá su valor como incentivo para la participación estudiantil y el avance estratégico de la internacionalización en casa. Se explicará el uso de portafolios electrónicos (eportfolios) en estos programas como práctica de alto impacto y se analizará su contribución al aprendizaje activo e integral, la reflexión, la formación para el empleo, y la adquisición de competencias globales. Los participantes del curso recibirán manuales y recursos para la aplicación práctica de estos conceptos y metodologías.

 

Characteristics of a course

Duration of a course: Training takes place over a two-week period.
Capacity of a course: Up to 20 participants from ONE institution.
Modality: Online through the USMEXFUSION Academy educational platform

The course structure:

1. Training starts with a 1st LIVE presentation with Q&A (1.5 to 2 hours). After the live session, the expert will share with participants two readings (minimum). 

2. Three days after the live session, based on the content and direction of the first live discussion, the expert would shape the questions he/she would pose in three forums. He/She would then give about a week for participants to add to forums from stimulating discussions, and replying when necessary. 

3. Once forums close, a 2nd LIVE presentation would be scheduled so that the expert addresses main points from the forums and an open discussion will follow. This 2nd LIVE discussion takes place towards the end of the second week of training.

Expert

Paloma Rodríguez

Paloma Rodríguez is the Associate Director of Undergraduate Academic Programs at the University of Florida International Center. She oversees the International Scholars Program and provides leadership for UF’s ongoing Quality Enhancement Plan for internationalization. Her research interests include eportfolio pedagogy, career integration, faculty professional development, and on-campus opportunities to promote global learning. Her publications explore the use of ePortfolio pedagogy in international programming and the role of global certificate programs for the advancement of comprehensive internationalization. She is a frequent presenter and workshop facilitator at NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad, AAC&U Global Learning, and other national conferences. Paloma is a contributing author to the 2017 AAC&U publication "Field Guide to ePortfolio" and to Raby & Valeau’s volume "Internationalization at Community College: Themes, Practices and Case Studies" (Palgrave McMillan 2016). She has served on the advisory board of the AAC&U Global Learning conference (2015) and as Chair of the NAFSA Community College Institutional Interest group. Prior to her involvement in International Education, Paloma spent twenty years working as a Humanities and language instructor in Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She holds an M.A. in Classics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) from the University of South Florida. She is currently a PhD candidate in Classical Civilization at the University of Florida.
