Institutional Internationalization Recognition

Campus Internationalization is a journey, not a destination. It is a means, not an end:

"Internationalization of higher education is the intentional process of integrating an international, intercultural or global dimension into the purpose, functions and delivery of post-secondary education, in order to enhance the quality of education and research for all students and staff, and to make a meaningful contribution to society."

De Wit, H., Hunter F., Howard L., Egron-Polak E. (Eds.) (2015) “Internationalisation of Higher Education”, European Parliament, Brussels: EU. Taken fromhttp://www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etudes/STUD/2015/540370/IPOL_STU(2015)540370_EN.pdf on September 25, 2016.

Because of this, it is important to document and celebrate successes that relate to how internationalization improves the quality of the teaching and research as well as how it makes a meaningful contribution to society.

It is also important to document and generate evidence on the campus internationalization development throughout the institution´s life.

If HEIs are interested in getting their internationalization activities and progress internationally certified and recognized, please check these two organizations´certification programs:

  • International Association of Universities (IAU) Program of Advisory Services for Advancing Internationalization

  • Certificate for Quality in Internationalisation (CeQuInt)

Global Competency Development

(students & personnel)

Global competency development of an individual is a lifelong journey. Because of this, it is importance to document and generate evidence of global competency development throughout life.

Educational institutions should provide ways for students and personnel to be well equipped to develop and document their global competency development throughout their careers.

We recommend the two following methods:

  • International / Intercultural Certificate Programs

http://usmexfusion.org/pdfs/Global_Cert_Paloma_Rodriguez.pdf

  • International / Intercultural e-porfolios

http://usmexfusion.org/pdfs/eportfolios_Paloma_Rodriguez.pdf

We thank our colleague Paloma Rodriguez for allowing us to share this valuable documents that contain examples and resources about these kinds of programs.
